Goodbye to the Urban Decay Naked Palette

Gone but not forgotten, the end of an era, Urban Decay Naked Palette

Big news hit the beauty community this week, Urban Decay posted a “funeral” for the OG Naked Palette and announced that it was officially being discontinued.

It went on sale at retailers for 50% off and prompted Naked lovers everywhere to snatch it up, it’s pretty much sold out everywhere now. So, if you didn’t get a chance to get one, they are probably gone now.

Even though, it’s been a few years since we have seen tutorials featuring this palette. It really hit us hard. The history and emotion that people have attached to this palette is unbelievable.

I have discovered chatting with others through the past few days, that many of us would buy those drugstore quads of eyeshadows, especially in our teen years. I never pulled colours from other palettes and never thought outside of the box.

Then, Urban Decay released the Naked palette. Pinterest was becoming popular and many pins were Naked looks, YouTube channels started doing tutorials and everyone wanted this palette. It was marketing genius! They released a palette with 12 colours, neutral so we didn’t get scared but enough that we could let our creativity come out!

This was my first high end palette that I ever purchased, and it prompted me to want all of the naked palettes and then eventually move on to other palettes!

Many of us haven’t used our Naked Palettes in years. They are sitting expired like an old blankie that you keep for comfort but never use.

That being said, I feel like Urban Decay is making a massive mistake, it’s killing a matriarch of the cosmetics industry and a product that single handedly changed the way we consume makeup today.

In honour of the passing of our beloved Naked palette. I’m going to do a look a day for the next week featuring the Naked palette. Head on over to Instagram to see the daily looks!

How do you feel about this beautiful palette being discontinued? Does it hold a special place in your heart?

  1. Urban Decay was the brand that got me interested in high end makeup! The Naked palette was among the first makeup palettes I bought from them. I don’t reach for them too much anymore, but they have a special place in my heart ❤️
