I have a slight obsession with lipstick. I am super critical of them and I want them to be perfect.
Every time that I get a new lip product, I put it through a series of criteria, shade, ease to apply, transfer proof, feel over time and how long it lasts.
Recently, I made an order from Sephora, and I chose to get a sample of the Grande Lips Collection Hydraplump Liquid Lipstick. I honestly, didn’t have very high hopes for this product. That being said, it is very pricey at $34.00 CAD for 0.084 oz of product!
Here’s a review of my test!
This says that it is long wearing and semi-matte formula. That it has an intense colour payoff that will give you an instant plumping feel within 3-5 minutes with no stings attached! They claim it has long-term hydrating benefits, this high pigment formula ensures colour is locked in, yet is comfortable enough to wear all day long without cracking or stripping the lips of natural moisture.
It claims to utilize a unique Microsphere Delivery System to carry the active ingredients directly to the dehydrated portion of the lips, increasing moisture and contributing to the plumping effect.

Volulip: Visibly plumps lips with hyaluronic acid synthesis. Hyaluronic acid is a great ingredient if you want to temporarily plump your skin. It can be very useful in temporarily diminishing fine lines and large pores.
Instaplump: Blend of vasodilators for instant visable plumping effect. Vasoldilators are ingredients that open blood vessels, which allows blood to flow more easily.
Phenyl Trimethicone: Locks in moisture and prevents chapping. This is a derivative of silicone, and is used in cosmetics and beauty products to reduce the amount of foam when shaken. It can enhance the appearance of the product due to it’s silky texture.
Diisostearyl Malate: Promotes soft, smooth lip surface. This is an emollient, surfactant/cleansing incredient. It is commonly used in lipsticks to make your skin soft and smooth. It is added to lipsticks to help them spread evently and easily.
The Wear Test (Over 3 Days)
Since, I received a sample of this product, I put it to the test over 3 days. I buy little lip brushes from either Sally’s Beauty Supply or Amazon to allow me to test product samples that come on the paper inserts.
The first colour that I tested was Vintage Rose. This colour is absolutely stunning! I was so impressed with the light nude pink formula of it and I think it could be flattering on many skin types.
It was definitely a semi-matte formula, it had the matte look but I very nice soft feel to it. I didn’t feel any drying over the course of the day.
Alright, what we all really want to know, did it plump my lips? I’m going to go with a no, if it did, it was so minimal that it was not very obvious. However, it did not make them look bad. It did have a slight stinging, peppermint feeling to it, that lasted for more than 30 minutes. I did actually kind of like the feeling, but it didn’t do anything in particular.
I would not say that my lips felt softer after wearing this for 3 days, but they did feel quite soft while wearing the product.
There was a little colour transfer on my coffee cup but nothing too bad. I just wouldn’t wear this on your wedding day when you have to go in for a big kiss.
After about 5 hours, this started to look bad, and I really should have re-applied if I wasn’t using a sample. However, 5 hours is pretty good, considering I ate and drank like normal at work throughout the testing time period.
This comes in 12 different colours, I tested out Antique Rose, Red Delicious and River Clay. I loved the first two colours, Red Delicious was a really amazing, flattering red and Antique Rose was the perfect daytime Nude-Pink colour. I do not think that River Clay would be flattering on all skin tones.
I really liked the feel of the lipstick, but I do not think that it had any plumping effect. The colours in this line are very nice and there is a wide range of them. I do not think that this is worth the $34.00 CAD pricetag. I would highly recommend getting the Inglot lipstick (review here) if you are looking for a matte formula to last all day without a harsh drying effect (and this one is transfer proof too)!
Thank you so much for stopping by! Have you tried a lip product that ACTUALLY plumped?? Let me know!
