5 Holy Grails and Holy Fails: Skincare

Pixi Glow Tonic

Result: GRAIL

Pixi Glow Tonic

Price: $29.00 for 250mL

Found at: Target & Drugstores

Findings: This does exactly what it says that it will do. It will make your skin glow! It’s also gentle enough to use day and night. I love the Glow Tonic To-Go Pads to use for travel so that I don’t have to worry about any spilling inside of my makeup bag.

It contains 5% Glycolic Acid, which is great for exfoliating. Over time, this will result in clearer, smoother skin.

After just 2 weeks of using this product, my skin went from dry and dreary to literally glowing! My breakouts have also lessened significantly. Overall, this is a must have for everyone!

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

Result: FAIL

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid

Price: $6.80 for 30mL

Found at: NO LONGER AT SEPHORA, reports are it will be at Ulta soon

Findings: This is supposed to provide deep hydration temporarily as soon as 5 minutes after application. This product contains 2% Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin B5 for enhancing surface hydration.

My issue is not that it didn’t hydrate my skin, but more the way it made it feel. Immediately after application, this made my skin feel sticky and it took some time to go away. My biggest beef with this product is that it made my other products like primer and foundation pill up, slide off parts of my face and stick to rough patches. This was a definite FAIL for me, I can’t use a product that will then affect the performance of everything that I put on after it.

Laniege Water Bank Essence

Result: FAIL

Laneige Water Bank EssencePrice: $46.00CAD for 60mL

Found at: Sephora

Findings: This is an essence to use for smoother, rehydrated skin.

The scent of this is very fragrant. Immediately, this gave me doubts because it was so strong scented. I put it on my face for 2 weeks and had to discontinue use because I was getting lots of little bumps on my forehead. It made no difference to anything that I did on my skin.

Too expensive for not enough results.

Tatcha The Pearl Tinted Eye Illuminating Treatment

Result: GRAIL

Tatcha The Pearl Eye Illuminating Treatment

Price: $60.00 CAD for 13mL

Found at: Sephora

Findings: This is a formula that provides moisture and natural coverage for a healthy, well-rested look all day. Not only does this help CORRECT the issues with your under-eyes but helps to camouflage them at the same time.

I have fine lines under my eyes and dark circles. Everyday, I cake on full coverage concealer and often it just ends up emphasizing my issues by the end of the day. I wanted to try something that was going to be easier, take a step out of my daily routine.

This definitely helped me with to make my eyes look more youthful and well-rested, I can definitely see an improvement to the overall look of my under eyes.

This is a PRICEY formula, but you don’t need to use more than a rice sized amount, so this will go a long way.

Laniege Water Sleeping Mask

Result: GRAIL

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

Price: $33.00CAD for 70mL

Found at: Sephora

Findings: This is an overnight, moisture recharging gel mask that quickly absorbs into your skin so you can sleep with it on.

I have been using this for about 4 months now, every single night. I love that it isn’t a heavy cream and not clogging my pores. The hydration in my face is greatly improving.

I find that the amount of product that you get will go a long way and you do wake up to skin that looks like you are getting a full night’s sleep and drinking enough water.

  1. Thanks for the follow <3 You have a lovely site!! I am hit or miss with quite a few Laneige items, some are amazing and others are the worst! I have never tried the Water Bank Essence but sounds like I should steer clear!! Thanks for sharing 🙂
