Hyaluronic Acid has had amazing results for my skin, especially foundations (Hourglass Illusion) that include this ingredient so I was so excited to try this one out. The price point is AMAZING on all of The Ordinary products.
First of all, what is Hyaluronic Acid? It’s a very common ingredient that is found in a lot of skincare and is often used for dermal fillers and to treat dermatitis. It was actually first developed for use in eye surgery.
As soon as this brand launched in Sephora, I was so excited to try some of their products out, however it was always sold out. I decided to make the hour trek down to the actual store in Toronto to pick up some goodies. I grabbed a bunch (because the price point is so good) and decided to give them a go.
I like the simple packaging and that it has an eye dropper, which really helps keep the product clean and not contaminated. I also like that using The Ordinary products makes me feel like a chemist, I know it’s weird. There is just something about mixing the products around that makes me feel super smart.
On first application, I realized a little goes a long way. At first, it feels a little sticky, give it a few minutes and it dries down. I felt my skin did look plumped for a few hours after application, which is what Hyaluronic acid normally does. So I was satisfied with how it was transforming some of my dry patches.
So overall, you think that I liked this product? Well…you are wrong. After application, with the skin plumping effects, this was something that I wanted to use during the day. For weeks of using this product, my foundation looked terrible. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong, then I eliminated this from my skincare routine and my foundation woes stopped.
So what did it do to my foundation? I am so glad that you asked… It made my primer immediately start pilling all over my face when I applied it. I could NOT get foundation to stick around my nose, it just WOULD NOT STICK! Finally, within a few hours, my cheeks, nose and forehead would start breaking up.
One day, I was super busy at work, I had a TON of different meetings that I was in and out of. I finally had a chance to go to the bathroom and I looked at myself in the mirror. I was completely horrified, I looked like an alligator. My foundation had completely broke down over 70% of my face and oxidized bad. I grabbed one of those brown paper towels (that is super scratchy) and started trying to even it out. I ended up having to try and remove my foundation with a paper towel and water. It was devastating.
I tried multiple foundations and primers, different combos and different price points. Nothing would work with this.
I’m calling this one a HOLY FAIL, but maybe if you want a serum to make your enlarged pores disappear but you won’t wear foundation or concealer than this is for you.
