I remember researching for weeks and months, my very first high luxury purchase, I knew it had to be Louis Vuitton. It was so exciting but slightly scary at the same time, this was such a big purchase. I really wanted something timeless, classic and would last the test of time.

I had recently completed a very time consuming project (that resulted in a lot of OT), so I decided to treat myself. I decided on a speedy 30 as my first piece and I remember how excited I was when I bought it. I went to a trade show in Las Vegas and was walking around the shops with my boss and co-worker. They knew that I wanted one, so we went in and asked about the Speedy right away. Immediately the Sales Associate (SA) took out white gloves. All three of us were just in awe. I couldn’t believe I was actually going to treat myself to one. Never in my wildest dreams.

Then it started a little bit of an addiction, however, I have decided to treat myself to 1 high-end handbag that I save up for each year. Why 1 a year? Well you know adulting and budgeting 🙂

Classic. Iconic. Timeless. This bag will easily go from day to night with you, thru the years. This bag was originally created by request from Audrey Hepburn, because she wanted a smaller version of the classic Keepall travel bag.

I first found that I had a love/hate relationship with this bag. I hated how slouchy it was, either empty or full. It has one small pocket and was impossible to find anything in. I ordered an organizer from pimpmyspeedy.com and it completely changed the game for me. Any organizer will do, but it makes it much easier to have everything have a home and also keeps the bottom sctructered so that you don’t have any slouchiness.

I often use my speedy for a night out when I wear those killer heels that I know if I have to stand or walk, I will need flats. This way I can put my shoes in the purse and not have to carry an additional bag or pouch for the shoes.

My suggestion to keep your speedy looking new is to get a couple of bandeaus or scarves so that you can keep the handles protected. They do seem to show some wear over time on the handles from the oil on your hands and if you use any creams.

Neverfull

For work, I always carry my iPad Pro with me during the day, often my laptop as well. I need a big workhorse. I don’t want to be fussing around trying to jam things into my purse all day long.

For years, I purchased inexpensive and mid-range purses to be my big work tote, and I kept repurchasing. Handles broke, stitching became undone, zippers broke. I became increasingly frustrated with the constant repurchasing.

Finally, I decided to bite the bullet and purchase a Neverfull MM in Damier Ebene. I have had it for almost 4 years and used and abused it. I bring it to work, I travel everywhere with it, put it on the floor, overload it. It still looks very good! The handles do show a little wear, but I actually love that, it makes the leather soft and super comfortable on my shoulders.

I keep the little pouch that comes with the new model Neverfull’s as a quick grab and go purse, especially when I am travelling or if I’m running out to lunch quick with coworkers. When I’m travelling, I often fill the little pouch with my in-flight essentials, such as tissues, wet-wipes (to disinfect my airplane seat-your welcome), lip gloss, emergency battery charger for my phone. When I get to my destination, I throw the items out of my little pouch so that I can use it as a little purse when needed.

I love my Neverfull MM in Damier Ebene so much, that I bought a Neverfull MM in Damier Azur last year so that I can switch up my summer and winter work purses. Just like the speedy, its a black hole, with only 1 zippered pocket inside. I ordered organizers from the ordinary club.com in the colour interiors of my bags and I love them. It keeps everything in it’s place.

Pochette Metis

I wanted a purse that I could use for crossbody, since I already have my tote and top handle bag. I felt that I was missing a more casual piece in my collection that I could use when shopping or on weekends.

I really went back and forth with what I wanted and decided that I wanted something durable, not to worry about stains and also something not too “blingy”. I love the canvas model’s being the monogram and reverse but I didn’t want everyone to really KNOW right away that I was carrying a Louis Vuitton. This is why I decided to go with the Empriente Leather in Noir. It’s treated, so that you don’t have to worry about your bag getting wet and ruining the leather, stains, or anything like that.

I feel that the pochette Metis is just the right size for my phone, sunglasses, wallet and a little bag that I place pens and extra lipstick in (eventually, I want this to be a Toiletry 19). I keep my car keys in the back zippered pocket of the purse (in my 6 ring key holder of course!

I almost returned this piece because I found that the lock was a little finicky at first, difficult to open at times. Luckily, once my wallet is packed inside the front compartment, it is super easy to open, even one handed.

I recently went on a trip to New York City and this was the only bag I brought with me, and it did me well. I spoke at a conference and then did some sightseeing, it was perfect!

Keepall

Louis Vuitton Keepall Bandouliere 50 Vintage

Oh the most classic piece of them all. The wonderful Keepall.

Last year, I was travelling to Bali, I had purchased a carry-on from Victoria’s Secret that I intended to use as a cute beach bag when we got to our destination. There we were, waiting at the gate (at almost MIDNIGHT) to depart on the first leg of our journey. I decided to grab my bag and go grab some waters for the flights and rip-my handle snapped right off. So there I am thinking, should I go through the next 26 hours of flights with a bad carryon that I will now have to carry in my arms? Or find a quick replacement?

I headed to Duty Free and found myself at Longchamp. I purchased the biggest tote that they had to put all my belongings in and threw out the cheap Victoria’s Secret bag. I am not hating on Longchamp, I love the bag I got as an emergency bag. I keep it folded in my suitcase, in case my shopping on a trip goes overboard. The reason that it is emergency use only is that it is awful to carry. I have to carry it in my hand or in the crook of my arm (just like the speedy) and it is too big for that and ends up too heavy! I also noticed that I am already getting some of the stitches separating on the handle :-(. She just doesn’t want everyday use.

I knew my requirements, something strong and durable with a strap and handles. That is why the Keepall Bandouliere was so appealing to me. The only downside was the price that made me hesitate, over $2000 for one is just OUCH. There are some great Facebook groups (Reetzy) that have vintage or pre-loved Keepall’s for sale. The price really depends on the condition that you want and even accessories that you want it to come with (luggage tag, handle holder, strap). Since it does come in 4 sizes 45cm, 50cm, 55cm, 60cm, I strongly recommend that you head to the Louis Vuitton store and try out the sizing before you buy one pre-loved to narrow down your choices. 55cm is the biggest carry on that you can use on airlines and 45 in my opinion is for minimalists only. I chose the 50cm so that I would still be able to comfortably carry this bag on all occasions.

Favorite PM, EVA or Mini-Pochette with Strap

The last one, is just a small bag for going out for more formal events, to the bar or just generally when you don’t need a bigger handbag. Get a strap that is long enough to wear crossbody if needed (think amusement park adventures) or small enough to just hang from your shoulder.

Save your money on the strap, Amazon has some amazing options that are very cute (think gold chain) and at a great price point.

For the last one, it doesn’t matter which one that I am suggesting for you. Just a small bag as your final one that you need in your collection.

With each of the 5 bags listed above, your collection will be complete, and you will never be without a bag for your occasion!
